Animating Democracy's Project Profile Database, part of Americans for the Arts’ National Arts Policy Database, features case studies from the Animating Democracy Lab and profiles of a wide-range of projects that demonstrate the capacity of the arts and humanities to stimulate public dialogue about contemporary civic issues. This resource serves as a reference tool for  professionals incorporating civic engagement and dialogue into their practice.  To browse the database and search for projects, click here.

Animating Democracy welcomes profiles of projects initiated by artists and cultural organizations as well as organizations in other fields whom wish to share their experience and findings with other professionals. Profiles whose efforts significantly incorporate the arts or humanities toward achieving civic engagement goals will be included in the Animating Democracy Profile Database. To ensure that projects meet Animating Democracy’s interests, they should satisfy these three basic criteria:

  1. The arts and/or humanities are a central focus.
  2. There is a clear civic issue being addressed through the project.
  3. Civic dialogue and/or civic engagement activities are a planned and intentional aspect of the artistic experience.

To submit a project profile for the database, fill out the text boxes below. Or, if you prefer, you may send an existing press release, report, or other document that responds to the criteria above by e-mail to AnimatingDemocracy@artsusa.org, or by U.S. mail to Animating Democracy, Americans for the Arts, 1000 Vermont Avenue, NW, 6th floor, Washington, DC  20005.  Once the information has been reviewed, an Animating Democracy staff person will contact you.
