Convention Overview

Saturday, June 7, 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.
McMenamin’s Crystal Ballroom

McMenamin's Crystal BallroomKick-off your convention experience at the historic McMenamin's Crystal Ballroom.  Interrupted jazz, the dancing Valentinos, Gypsy Feasts of the Dead, James Brown, and Jerry Garcia—these images just scratch the surface of episodes that have been played out at the Crystal Ballroom. Since opening in 1914, the ballroom has been a special place for many parts of Portland society. In the late 1960s, when all things psychedelic seemed to radiate from the Crystal, city officials and parents were suspicious. The ballroom closed in June 1968 in response to their protests and did not re-open to the public until 1997. The 30 years of darkness did not extinguish its powers. The place still sends chills down the spine. Experience a different type of opening reception, with eclectic performances by “3 Leg Torso” and “Pink Martini”.  Enjoy a sampling of northwest specialties to whet the appetite and then head out on your own to enjoy all that downtown Portland restaurants have to offer!

Monday, June 9, 7:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Portland Center for the Performing Arts

Portland Center for the Performing ArtsSay farewell to Portland at the home of its finest music, theatre, dance, lecture and more - the Portland Center for Performing Arts.  This premiere arts and entertainment venue is nationally recognized as one of the top ten performing arts centers in the nation.  That’s why we’ve decided to hold our closing event at the PCPA (as locals call it), which host over 900 performances annually.  Enjoy a dinner buffet of local bounty, from seafood to garden produce, while enjoying Portland’s finest (and most fun!) musicians, from blues to jazz to Irish fiddle.  The PCPA hosts every type of event imaginable and is the perfect way to close your Portland experience.
