Hilton Austin
Austin, TX
The creation of public art is a dynamic exchange between artistic, social, and political forces and the physical environment. This conference will explore two focus areas:
- The connections between land art and public art
- Public art within the social and political landscape
The topics will be examined from a national perspective through key speakers, dialogues, panels, and case studies. Agnes Denes, an artist internationally renowned for her installations, will deliver the keynote address. Tours to Austin’s public art and design hot spots will provide a local lens through which the conference themes can be viewed. The conference includes workshops for public art administrators and artists with topics focusing on transportation funding, text, and artist-selection methods. Also featured are the Year In Review, a survey of the most innovative and exciting public art projects; the presentation of the Public Art Network Award; and evening receptions.
