Philadelphia
A Message from Peggy Amsterdam, President of the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance
On behalf of the cultural community of Philadelphia, I invite you join us this June for the 2008 Annual Convention. Selected by National Geographic’s Traveler Magazine as the country’s Next Great City, Philadelphia’s many signature cultural attractions are within walking distance of the conference hotel, alongside one of the hottest dining scenes of the East Coast. You can check out everything arts related to do during the convention on our special convention page on PhillyFunGuide.com. Make sure to bookmark the page, because we will be posting exclusive last-minute half-price ticket offers on Wednesday, June 18. Check out our staff’s picks, walking tours, blogs, and public art around the convention.
Highlighted cultural activities during the convention will include:
Our Town in Old City Wednesday, May 21–Sunday, June 22
Arden Theatre Company
The finale of the Arden's 20th Anniversary season is an unprecedented event celebrating community as the theater brings to life Wilder's beloved masterpiece chronicling the simple beauty and fragile elegance of daily life.
Summer Solstice Celebration Saturday, June 21 - Sunday, June 22
Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts
Summer Solstice Celebration is the Kimmel Center's annual all-night celebration of the arts. From 3 p.m.–6 a.m. on the longest day of the year, the Kimmel Center opens its doors to performing and visual artists across every conceivable genre for a 15-hour extravaganza. At any given time, you can experience classical, jazz, world, and indie rock music; enter a Guitar Hero competition; be entertained by jugglers; get your fortune told; enjoy a chair massage at 4 a.m.; or stay the whole night for the annual drum circle!
