Too often teachers alone are expected to provide arts education when in fact elected school leaders, administrators, district staff, principals, arts organizations, and funders play important roles in high-quality, highly accessible arts education. Los Angeles County's successful initiative, Arts for All, is a series of policy changes and educational initiatives intended to institutionalize sequential K-12 arts education in Los Angeles County school districts. At this Knowledge Exchange Arts for All will be a lens for looking at how communities can work to support quality sequential K-12 arts education.
What You'll Get and Why You Should Attend
- Over the course of two days, Arts for All and participants will share knowledge, grapple with key questions, and actively synthesize information for applicability to participant communities anywhere in the nation.
- Participants will experience ground-level implementation through in-depth case materials, and interactive consensus-building workshops designed and led by Arts for All
- Instructors and presenters will be the coalition members themselves, including partners from participating school districts, district arts coaches, funders, cultural organization staff, state, and national supporters.
Participants will leave Los Angeles with an understanding of what infrastructure is necessary to provide arts education, the coalition necessary to build it, and how to take the first step and each step thereafter.
Come as a Team
To bring about the systemic change to guarantee a quality sequential K-12 arts education for all students, there needs to be commitment and involvement from diverse stakeholders. We encourage you to attend the Knowledge Exchange with a coalition of your communitys stakeholders. Consider your school board members, district and school leadership, PTA leadership and community leaders in the arts, business, and philanthropy. Focused conversations and workshops will enable you to deepen your understanding of challenges and opportunities within your community.
Funding Community Focused Sessions
Throughout the two-day conference, special sessions will be hosted by leaders of Arts for All for members of the funding community. These sessions will provide focused dialogues and networking to meet the needs and interests of funders seeking to leverage systemic change in arts education for the students of their communities.
