Public Leadership in the Arts Awards
County Arts Leadership Honoree
|Recipient:||Jim Bradley, County Councilman, Salt Lake County (UT)|
Salt Lake County Councilman Jim Bradley received the 2010 County Arts Leadership Award for his ardent support for arts and culture in Salt Lake County, Utah. As a county councilman, Bradley has taken this longtime county involvement in the arts to new and innovative levels, expanding the commitment to building and operating cultural facilities, establishing a public art program, and creating a grants program with an annual budget of more than $15 million.
Bradley provided leadership to plan and build the Rose Wagner Center for the Performing Arts (now programmed to capacity) by bringing together the arts community and the public and private sectors. He worked to pass the Zoo, Arts & Parks legislation which enables counties to collect one-tenth of one percent of the sales tax for an arts and culture grants program (passed by Salt Lake County voters twice; most recently by a more than two-to-one count) and with an annual infusion to almost 200 cultural organizations of more than $15 million resulting in over 6,054,783 people attended an event in 2009.
Bradley has served on many arts boards, including the Sundance Institute, Repertory Dance Theatre, and Salt Lake Art Center, as well as other community boards, including the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Salt Lake County Council of Governments, and the Economic Development Corporation of Utah. He is known for his intelligence and his wit, which he applies in all settings.
