Americans for the Arts Announces the Establishmet of Arts in Education Council and Election and Appointment of its first Members

Washington DC – February 9, 2004 – Americans for the Arts announces the establishment of a new Arts in Education (AIE) Council with 12 elected members and four appointed ex officio members.

The AIE Council was created to advise the board and staff of Americans for the Arts about the diverse interests, roles, and artistic disciplines within the field of arts in education.  The Council also serves as an advisory board to the Arts in Education (AIE) Network, organized by Americans for the Arts to link the breadth of individuals and organizations that share a common goal of promoting the advancement of arts in education.

The AIE Network is designed to inform its members about issues affecting arts in education policy, advocate for inclusion and integration of high-quality arts in education programming in America’s schools and communities, and expand participation in the field of arts education.  The AIE Network’s key constituents are arts professionals, artists, administrators, educators, and community arts leaders who plan, implement, and fund arts in education programming at the local, state, and national levels.

“This new advisory council for arts in education is extremely important to Americans for the Arts, and we are pleased to have such a skilled group join our efforts.  Their expertise will inform our programs and services as we aim to advance the presence and quality of arts education programming in schools and communities throughout the country,” stated Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts.
