Americans for the Arts Presents National Award for Community Arts Leadership to Eric Rogers
LAS VEGAS, NV — June 3, 2007 — Today at its annual meeting in Las Vegas, Americans for the Arts presented the 2007 Selina Roberts Ottum Award to Eric Rogers, Executive Director of Arts Place, Inc. The award recognizes the achievements of an individual who has made a meaningful contribution to the arts through local arts leadership.
“Eric Rogers has established himself as an indefatigable arts leader,” said Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts. “His unwavering commitment to the arts has benefited communities in more than a dozen counties in Indiana and Ohio.”
Eric Rogers has served as executive director of Arts Place, Inc. since 1976. Arts Place is a regional arts council serving 16 counties in East Central Indiana and West Central Ohio. In 2003, Rogers and Arts Place were jointly awarded Indiana’s Governor’s Arts Award. Prior to his current position, Rogers worked for the Indiana Arts Commission as the coordinator of the Indiana Department of Education's Artists-in-the-Schools program. He also served as a trustee of Arts Midwest, a member of the Indiana Public Radio Advisory Council, and was elected to two terms on the Jay School Corporation Board of Education, serving as president and secretary. He is a co-author of “Leadership Partners,” which explores the role of the CEO and the board chair in the life of the nonprofit organization.
Rogers graduated cum laude from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Music in piano performance and continued his studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
The Selina Roberts Ottum Award is presented by Americans for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
