Suzy Delvalle

With over 20 years of leadership experience in the arts, Suzy has dedicated her career to enhancing the impact of mission-based organizations and promoting opportunity and equity in the cultural sector. She believes in the transformative power of artists in communities and seeks to leverage her expertise to be of service to the creative practices that are close to her heart.

In recent years, Suzy has developed an integrated approach to leading and managing institutions in interim roles, focusing on ensuring the right people, programs, and systems are in place for long-term sustainability and thriving practices. Currently serving as the Interim Director of Operations at United States Artists, she collaborates closely with the CEO to implement new strategic program plans, oversee a website redesign project, and optimize operational guidelines and technology upgrades. 

Prior to her current role, Suzy held interim Executive Director positions at Artadia, A Blade of Grass, and Socrates Sculpture Park, where she guided board and staff through leadership transitions by addressing critical systems and capacity issues, aligning programs and operations with broader goals, building and maintaining funder relationships, and managing financial projections to set the stage for the permanent leader's success.

Previously, Suzy served as President and Executive Director of Creative Capital, a groundbreaking arts nonprofit utilizing a venture philanthropy model to support individual artists. During her tenure, she spearheaded significant organizational advancements, including a 20% increase in the annual operating budget, board expansion, the establishment of a National Advisory Council, and enhanced services for artists through annual awards. Before her role at Creative Capital, Suzy was the founding Director of the Sugar Hill Children's Museum of Art & Storytelling, overseeing its development and opening. She also served as the Director of External Affairs and Development at El Museo Del Barrio, where she significantly grew the museum's budget and attendance. Prior to her arts leadership positions, Suzy worked in consumer banking and advertising.

In addition to her professional roles, Suzy serves as adjunct faculty at The New School University and has guest lectured at universities nationwide. She currently sits on the Boards of ArtTable, The Laundromat Project, and Socrates Sculpture Park. Originally from Curaçao, Suzy is fluent in Spanish, Dutch, and Papiamento.
