Description:

The Urban Arts Fund (UAF) was initiated as a graffiti prevention program in 2009. In 2017, the UAF was expanded to develop programming partnerships that focus on community building and social change, addressing diversity, equity, and inclusiveness values. To improve learning environments and communities around Denver’s low income neighborhoods, The Re-Imagining Arts Worldwide (RAW) mural project painted the exterior walls of three elementary schools in Villa Park and Sun Valley – Eagleton, Cowell and Fairview. This project had it's roots in the first project in the Miami’s urban arts district of Wynwood. Over 30 local, national and international artists from as far as Italy and Mexico City came to Denver to make an impact on these children’s lives. As the team of artists, curated by the RAW project, volunteered their time and talent to increase the vibrancy of these learning environments, disadvantaged students from these often overlooked, low income, minority neighborhoods, will now have access to school buildings and play areas adorned with large scale works of art that create an inspiring culture of learning and discovery. City of Denver Arts & Venues, the Urban Arts Fund and Denver Public Schools supported the RAW Denver Project to broaden arts education and strengthen outlets for learning through creativity. The RAW Denver Project raised raised funding for the Denver project through an UAF granting process and corporate and private contributions. In-kind donations were received to support the project with lifts, paint materials, vehicles and artist meals from local restaurants.
