May This Never End

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Title: May This Never End

Description:

The artwork reads: “Nothing’s for keeps. Except that we must keep going. You’ll spend your entire life searching, ok? We all want to belong. So let’s all get along. Make the most, and hope. May this never end.” The installation is simply the artist’s handwriting with a Sharpie. It was then scanned, enlarged, and CNC milled out of HDPE plastic by a local manufacturer. With a simple bolt & washer system, it was installed on the public fence. While all work on the Greenway is temporary, this piece has an extended run of 9 months. After that, it will be relocated to a permanent location in the great Boston area. The work is located on The Greenway near Faneuil Hall. A MassDOT-BRA planning process is collecting community feedback on the future of this site. The Greenway Conservancy has used the site for light-touch creative programming and artwork. The artwork is located on what is referred to as Parcel 12, just south of the North End Parks system on The Greenway. In 2005, The Boston Museum was awarded the rights to build an $89 million museum designed by Moshe Safdie on this parkland. Due to the economic collapse of 2008, the Museum gave up its plans to build a structure in 2009. The site is currently under review by the MassDOT-BRA to define its final look and feel. Fencing keeps pedestrians off of the ramp structure of Parcel 12. The fencing on the West side of the ramps has been used by the Greenway Conservancy as the supporting structure for several temporary art exhibits and pop-up events.
