Description:

psychylustro is a temporary site-specific installation by Katharina Grosse, realized with Philadelphia Mural Arts, along seven passages of the Northeast Rail Corridor. Conceived as a choreographed experience for train riders, psychylustro reimagines the experience of art and the urban environment for travelers who pass this cityscape transformed by Grosse's intervention into a large-scale urban earthwork and landscape painting in real time and space. psychylustro is made possible by the nearly 34,000 passengers who travel daily by Amtrak, SEPTA, and NJ Transit along the project's five-mile corridor between Philadelphia and North Philadelphia stations; the cooperation of three railroads - Amtrak, CSX, and Conrail - who gave us permission and access to paint their property; private building owners; a local community garden; and a team of Berlin and Philadelphia artists. psychylustro draws viewers' attention to the present state of this long-neglected passageway through Philadelphia, to reflect on its past, and reimagine its future potential.
