Research Abstract
Art of the Triangle: A Citi Arts and Town of Cary, NC Public Art Master Plan
In recent years, public art has become a more notable feature in the town of Cary, North Carolina. Public art was being recognized for enhancing the quality of life in the city. As a result, it was suggested that a comprehensive public art master plan be initiated. Adopted by the town council on October 11, 2001, this master plan, Art of the Triangle, was developed as a mechanism for directing the implementation of public artworks in Cary over the next five years. The document is divided into five sections: 1. Recommendations: Details about 28 recommendations in 14 categories are provided. 2. Process: Summarizes the four components used to develop the Master Plan. These include research, task force meetings, key person interviews, and the community design charrette. 3. Place: Highlights Cary, North Carolina’s unique and distinct sense of place and recognizes the role that public art can play in furthering community image and identity. 4.
