ARTahoe: Opportunities for a Regional Cultural Initiative (Executive Summary)

GENERAL

Research Abstract
ARTahoe: Opportunities for a Regional Cultural Initiative (Executive Summary)

The purpose of the Tahoe Regional Arts and Cultural Heritage Planning Project was to:

  • stimulate new dialogue among all friends of the arts in the Tahoe-Truckee region;
  • explore common ground and opportunities for expanding and enhancing the arts in this region and its communities; and
  • serve as a supporting document for local organizations in their pursuit of grants and other funds.

This is an executive summary of the full report that addressed the arts in this community, comprised of residents and a year-round influx of tourists, and served as the seed for creating a regional arts plan. It summarizes the research conducted and recommendations for eight central concepts for a regional cultural initiative. They are to:

  • create regional cooperation through voluntary participation;
  • promote the regions cultural resources;
  • enhance cultural experiences for both visitors and residents;
  • increase opportunities for cultural experiences for underserved populations: cultural and ethnic communities and youth;
  • facilitate communication among arts and cultural providers;
  • cultivate support for the regions artists and arts organizations;
  • integrate arts and culture with other community systems; and
  • increase the support base from the public and private sectors.

The executive summary also lists the names of all participants who contributed to the research, and includes locations throughout the region where the full report is available.
