This update to the 2010 Arizona Arts Education Census provides comparison data on how arts education access has changed between 2009 and 2013 through an analysis of the arts teacher assignments in the 2012/2013 Highly Qualified Teachers database. To prepare this analysis, Quadrant Research was provided with the 2012/2013 Highly Qualified Teacher data for the four arts disciplines (dance, music, theatre and visual arts). In addition, Quadrant had access to the 2008/2009 HQT data for music and visual arts to allow for comparative analysis between the two periods (2009 vs. 2013). 2009 the Arizona Arts Education Research Institute (AAERI)--a partnership of the Arizona Commission on the Arts, Arizona Department of Education, College of Fine Arts at the University of Arizona, College of Arts & Letters at Northern Arizona University and the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University--commissioned a study of access to arts education in Arizona public schools. Their initial report on this research was published in 2010. A collection of reports from the 2010 census include a summary, highlights, full report and a survey tool.
