Museum Visits and Activities for Family Life Enrichment

GENERAL

Research Abstract
Museum Visits and Activities for Family Life Enrichment

Review by Carol B. Stapp, of the book Museum Visits and Activities for Family Life Enrichment (Binghamton, N.Y., Hawarth Press, 1989, 200 p.).

A scholarly compendium entitled Museum Visits and Activities for Family Life Enrichment, edited by a museum director and a professor emeritus of human behavior, appears to be intended for two categories of readers: (1) museum professionals who wish to learn more about the family and (2) specialists on the family who wish to learn more about the museum. Indeed, the contents of this volume first appeared as a double issue of Marriage and Family Review in 1989, where it no doubt reached specialists on the family; publication as a book increases the likelihood that this material will become known to museum professionals.

A determined reader can extract several important facts and insights, but - for a publication ostensibly devoted to communication and humanistic values - this volume provides a poor model in clarity of exposition and concern for the audience.
