Dance companies exist to dance. Few if any companies conduct all their performances, lecture demonstrations and other activities at a single home base. Thus it is necessary for companies to be booked: to find other place to work. While designed primarily for dance companies, information on booking procedures and techniques is generally useful to any performing arts company.

In general, the behavior patterns for nonprofit organizations are more complex than suggested by single objective function behavior models, which have been usually applied to nonprofit organizations. The author is suggesting a theory based on the organizations having a variety of objectives with these organizations operating in an environment which allows considerable room for discretion and alternative pursuits.
