The BCA Report: 2001 National Survey of Business Support to the Arts (Executive Summary)

This Business Committee for the Arts, Inc. report is an executive summary of results from a survey about business support to the arts. The survey was conducted during June and July 2001. Highlights from this survey include:

  • Businesses contributed a record $1.56 billion to the arts in 2000. 
  • In 2000, the arts received 14% of total philanthropic contributions made by business. 
  • A contributions budget, usually determined by profits, is the primary source of business support of the arts.
  • The majority of businesses agree that involvement with the arts can help business by offering networking opportunities, stimulating creative thinking and problem-solving, and building team spirit.
