Research Abstract
The Role of Economics in Evaluating Public Investment in the Arts

Paper presented at the Fourth International Conference on Cultural Economics held
May 12-14, 1986, at the Palace of the Popes in Avignon, France.

This paper is a meta-analysis of the problem of economic analysis of culture. The central question is what is the proper role of economics in the evaluation of public cultural expenditures? Analysis is based upon experience at the federal level in Canada, although it may have implications for other settings as well. (p. 243)
