Visual Dallas: A Public Art Plan for the City

GENERAL

Research Abstract
Visual Dallas: A Public Art Plan for the City

An inevitable time arrives in the life of a city when its face and form mature. It comes after fads and trends have passed and the need to be stylish has been set aside. A sense of totality and continuity replace adolescent disunity. Dallas is fast approaching that time as its cultural life grows. A public art program, as proposed in this document, is intended to complement and become a part of the grace and elegance of a mature city. Further, the proposed public art program provides a means for the citizens to meet and welcome a new citizen, the artist, who usually is thought of as an artist but not a citizen but who, through our invitation to be a citizen artist can contribute immeasurably to the City's maturing process. With this vision before us, we offer the Public Art Plan, Visual Dallas, to the citizens of Dallas. (p. i)
