On July 29th and 30th, Americans for the Arts Board of Directors members Ramona Baker and Margie Johnson Reese will host President and CEO Bob Lynch at Goucher College where he will do a Q&A with students and teach a class on arts policy.
Presented annually in partnership with the Howard County Public School System, this year’s Youth Art Month exhibit is titled Personal Geographies – Maps as Art and features hundreds of works by HCPSS students in grades K-12. The students’ artworks, selected from public school art classes throughout the county, investigate the many ways that maps inform and influence the way we see and navigate within the visual world.
Professional artists from around the Mid-Atlantic region will set up their easels throughout Historic Ellicott City for three days July 10-12, capturing the city’s unique charm and character while competing for at least $5,000 in cash prizes during Paint It! Ellicott City 2015. The public is invited to come watch the painters in action, and artists from the community are invited to join the fun as Open Paint-Out participants.

The Science without Borders® Challenge was created to get students and teachers more involved and interested in ocean conservation through various forms of art. This yearly contest inspires students to be creative while using different types of media to promote public awareness of the need to preserve, protect, and restore the world’s oceans and aquatic resources; thus, contributing to the overarching goals of the Foundation.

The theme for this year’s Science without Borders® Challenge is ‘Reef Relationships.’
HoCo Open is a salon-style, non-juried exhibit showcasing the talent of local artists. Artists (aged 18 years and older) who live, work, or study in Howard County are invited to bring one piece of original artwork completed in the past two years to the drop-off on January 8 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Artwork will be accepted for the exhibit on a first-come basis, one piece per artist, until the gallery is full.

Telling: Baltimore 2014
In partnership with Johns Hopkins University, this is the 2nd production of Telling that VAP has produced in Baltimore and includes 10 veterans and family members.
BASETRACK LIVE, presented by En Garde Arts, is a multidisciplinary work including theater, music, news media, journalism, and technology. A group of photojournalists documented Marines in Afghanistan by taking photographs and videos using only an iPhone. This material, which enabled military families to communicate with their loved ones, began to tell an important story of ordinary people fundamentally changed by extraordinary circumstances.

Art Maryland 2014, a premier showcase for regional artists, opens October 31 at the Howard County Arts Council. A multi-media statewide juried exhibit, Art Maryland features work selected from nearly 600 entries by 214 artists working in a wide variety of styles and mediums. Guest juror Julia Marciari-Alexander, Executive Director of The Walters Art Museum, will offer remarks and present juror awards at a free reception November 7 from 6–8pm. The Levine blues jam is an opportunity for musicians of any age and proficiency to experience blues from the inside. In a fun and structured environment facilitated by Levine jazz faculty members, musicians will get a chance to play and improvise on a couple well-known blues standards. In addition to facilitating the session, the Levine faculty will also provide general instruction and specific guidance where necessary.
The United States Air Force Orchestra accompanies a musical performance commemorating the 150th anniversary of Arlington National Cemetery and featuring the Washington, D.C., area premiere of "Arlington Sons," performed by Broadway and Metropolitan Opera star, David Pittsinger, as well as an original work by Virginia composer Stephen Melillo, titled "Courageous."
