The Statue of Liberty stands in New York Harbor in the snow.

With a growing need for and interest in affordable arts and culture spaces in the northern Manhattan region of New York City, the Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York City Economic Development Corporation will be investing in building an Immigrants Research and Performing Arts Center.

Located in the Inwood neighborhood, the $15 million dollar project will “deliver state-of-the-art cultural space in Northern Manhattan, providing a permanent home to honor the vibrancy and history of immigrant contributions to our cultural fabric,” according to James Patchett, the president and CEO of New York City’s Economic Development Corporation.

Nonprofit organizations in the city are encouraged to apply to oversee this project, where they will be responsible for securing additional funding for programs, performances, rehearsal spaces, and administrative offices. The center hopes to serve community members by bringing a space for creative community use.
