$2 million increase achieved through Congressional action in the House and Senate last summer and fall

Just about 4.5 months late, Congress and the White House finally approved a package of spending bills, including funds for the National Endowment for the Arts. The NEA received a $2 million increase through Congressional action in the House and Senate last summer and fall. In fact, during House floor debate last summer, an amendment was offered to cut the NEA and National Endowment for the Humanities by 15%. The amendment was soundly defeated, but the overall bill has been on pause pending the broader border security disagreement. The delayed passage of FY 2019 means that the FY 2020 Administration's budget proposal will also be delayed until mid-March.
