The Veterans Curation Program (VCP) is Hiring!

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

The Veterans Curation Program (VCP) is a paid training and employment opportunity that provides veterans with tangible work skills and experience through the rehabilitation of archaeological collections owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers.  The Veterans Curation Program is seeking OEF and OIF veterans, veterans with service-connected disabilities, and other recently separated veterans for a paid training program to work as archaeological laboratory technicians at facilities in Alexandria, VA, Augusta, GA, and St. Louis, MO for the upcoming session, scheduled to begin in early November 2015.

Applicants should have an interest in archaeology, anthropology, digital photography, records processing, and database management.  Requirements include the ability to handle artifacts and documents, note-taking, and recording information from existing documentation.  The schedule includes either 20 hour weeks or 40 hour weeks but can be made flexible upon mutual agreement, and the duration of the program is expected to last up to 5 months.

Through its investment in service members, the VCP is building on skills that veterans acquire during military service, skills that include leadership, teamwork, and attention to detail.  Working under the direct supervision of professionals in the field of archaeology, veterans receive competitive pay while learning through technical training in a peer-to-peer veteran's environment.  By providing a bridging experience to the public sector, the program facilitates these valuable members of society to move on to find permanent employment and to enroll in institutions of higher education.

Veterans bring attention to detail, teamwork, and leadership potential to the workplace and a genuine need exists for employment opportunities.  The diversity of arts provides a segue for reentry and reintegration to civilian life through focus, skill building, confidence, and the power of accomplishment.
