Description:

The 100 block of Broad Street SW in Central Downtown Atlanta, referred to as the South Broad district has long been plagued with aesthetic, safety, and economic issues. For over 40 years these issues have caused a continuous fail rate for businesses within the area. The majority of these historical structures which date back to the early 1900's have been vacant and without exterior facade care for a significant amount of time. In order to draw public attention to the needs of this street, surrounding businesses, and residential areas and solve many impending aesthetic issues - through a grant from the Office of Cultural Affairs Contemporary Art Exhibit, Elevate, five internationally recognized muralists painted live for one week on 45'-60' boom lifts producing full facade or building mural wraps. Each of the murals were unique to the style of the individual artist. The group was curated, as was the design selection in order to ensure a group of artworks that were complimentary and diverse in technique.
