Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a package of charitable tax provisions that includes making permanent the IRA Charitable Rollover provision – a legislative goal of Americans for the Arts for the last decade.

The America Gives More Act, H.R. 4719, makes permanent three now-expired tax provisions. The measure also extends through April 15 the deadline for claiming charitable donations on the previous year's tax filing, and would simplify to 1 percent the excise tax rate for foundations' investment income. Americans for the Arts, Americans for the Arts Action Fund, and over 850 organizations sent a letter supporting the permanent renewal of the charitable tax provisions included in this bundled bill, including the IRA Charitable Rollover—an important funding source for arts organizations and a key tax incentive for charitable giving. House Ways and Means Chairman Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI) referenced the letter in his floor statement. The bill now moves to the Senate for further consideration and ongoing debate on reinstatement of over 50 tax provisions that expired on December 31, 2013.
