Americans for the Arts Encourages You to Participate

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

WASHINGTON—October 1, 2014—National Arts & Humanities Month kicks off October 1, 2014. The monthlong celebration is the country’s largest collective celebration of arts and culture.

Americans for the Arts, the leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education in America, encourages all Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives, and to begin a lifelong habit of active participation in the arts.

Find local events to participate in, such as art exhibits, performances, book readings and festivals that are part of the month-long celebration, at www.AmericansForTheArts.org/NAHM. Join the conversation online using #NAHM to broadcast gatherings, advocacy events, and cultural happenings related to National Arts & Humanities Month. Artists are encouraged to take photos of their work and share them on their social networks with #ShowYourArt.

President Obama has shown his support again this year with an official presidential proclamation for the month

“Cultivating the talents of our young people and ensuring they have access to the arts are critical to our Nation's growth and prosperity. To meet the challenges ahead, we must harness the skills and ingenuity of our children and grandchildren and instill in them the same passion and persistence that has driven centuries of progress and innovation. The arts and humanities provide important opportunities for our young people to unleash their creativity and reach for new heights,” states President Obama.
