Research Abstract
Arts Education Principles/Standards: An ICFAD Position

In October of 1990, the membership of the International Council of Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD) instructed its Arts in Education Committee to develop a set principles for prospective students entering college. The statements in this booklet are intended to stimulate discussion about standards, frameworks, goals and other initiatives related to K-12 arts education programs. The statement also provides guidance for the continued preparation of students in arts education teacher preparation programs. The visual arts, music, dance and theatre are each treated separately. Examples are provided of the knowledge, skills and abilities to be achieved by students in each discipline.
