Research Abstract
Private Demand for Public Subsidies: An Econometric Study of Cultural Support in Australia

What explains variations in state financial support for culture? Is there any reason to believe that increased government subvention for the arts might be forthcoming? This paper seeks to provide some answers to these questions for recent Australian experience, using insights from the 'economics of politics' literature in application to pooled data for state and local government outlays on cultural services.
