Freshman member Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) joined Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) as co-chairs of the Congressional STEAM Caucus.

The Congressional STEAM Caucus formed in 2013 to “change the vocabulary” of education to recognize the benefits of both the arts and sciences—and their intersections—to our country's future economy. These educational and research intersections benefit STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) understanding. In the words of Albert Einstein, “After a certain high level of technical skill is achieved, science and art tend to coalesce in esthetics, plasticity, and form. The greatest scientists are always artists as well.”

Since forming, the Caucus has held numerous congressional briefings and has grown in size. Briefings include industry panel discussions with The Boeing Company, Intel, and Lockheed Martin, and intersections with the Congressional Maker Caucus and 3D printing.

Rep. Bonamici serves on the Education & Workforce Committee and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. She has made it a point throughout her career to support public education and is a regular speaker at Arts Advocacy Day. Rep. Stefanik also serves on the Education Committee as well as the Armed Services Committee. Read more in the co-Chairs’ press release here.
