Ethereal Bodies 8 is a group of eight stainless steel sculptures situated on an earthwork planted with grasses. Within a traffic circle, the sculptures form the south entrance of the Zuckerberg General Hospital and Trauma Center in San Francisco, CA. The group of eight sculptures create a dynamic pivot point for arrival at the Hospital. The group of forms and their compound curves recombine to create new shapes from different vantage points circling the roundabout. This experience is heightened by the cinematic effect created when viewed from a vehicle circling the entry drive. Their open transparent structure allows sunlight and colored LED light to fill their volumes changing from silver to gold in the sunlight. At night a composition of changing colors cycles through the forms creating new relationships between complimentary colors. By mediating arrivals and departures Ethereal Bodies 8 creates the positive effect of experiencing art in medical environments.
