Toyota Brings Children, Cars, and Creativity Together
Toyota’s annual Dream Car Art Contest—one of the largest global art contests for children—invites children from around the world to submit designs for dream cars of the future that offer imaginative solutions to large-scale social and environmental issues. This year, in partnership with creative agency Saatchi & Saatchi Fallon Tokyo, Toyota will bring 90 winning designs to life by turning each design into an animated video using the social media app Vine. Click the video below to view some of this year’s amazing designs and read more about Toyota’s Dream Car Art Contest on the pARTnership Movement.

An “Anywoman’s” View of Business and the Arts
Linda Odell, media relations manager at Hallmark Cards, Inc., discusses the motivations behind Hallmark’s support of the arts and her experience as a Hallmark employee. Hallmark Cards, a 2014 BCA 10 honoree, fosters creative environments both inside and outside the workplace, and has been particularly instrumental in building the arts and culture community in Kansas City, MO, where the company is headquartered. Read about Linda’s first-hand experience on ARTSblog.

“When I come to work in the morning, I may walk past a hand-painted cast bronze horse by Deborah Butterfield and a Pablo Picasso ceramic plate… If this corporate art collection, one of the earliest of its type in the nation, can engage me, I can only imagine what working in what amounts to a glorious gallery of art may mean to my colleagues in our visual design studios.”

ArtSpeak! Does the Talking for Shugoll Research
BCA Executive Board member Mark Shugoll, CEO of Shugoll Research, a 2005 and 2007 BCA 10 honoree, discusses ArtSpeak!, a program that brings Broadway stars into Washington, DC area schools. ArtSpeak! is held four times a year at different high schools and is free to the public, underwritten by Shugoll Research. Past Broadway performers who have participated in the program include Patti LuPone, Kristin Chenoweth, Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, and Kelli O’Hara. Shugoll’s research showed that arts audiences were aging and students had little interest in the arts, perhaps because the arts were disappearing from their schools. The goal of ArtSpeak! is to excite students about theater and the arts and engage them as the theater patrons of tomorrow. Read more about Shugoll’s ArtSpeak! program on ARTSblog.

WorkCREATIVE brings artists into businesses and integrates employees in hands-on creative projects to stimulate communication, build teamwork, and spark innovation to drive business growth. Business for Culture & the Arts’ Skills Day Connects Business Volunteers
Portland’s Business for Culture & the Arts Skills Day grew out of its Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA) program. While the interest in volunteering is great, BCA found that volunteers and arts managers have less time for orientations, meetings, planning, etc. BCA decided to take a new approach—a one-day conference bringing together business consultants and staffers from a wide range of arts and culture groups for one-on-one consulting sessions, skills-building workshop presentations, roundtable discussions and more. Four Things Leaders Get Wrong About Creativity
In the following article from Inc.com, design theory and branding professor Natalie Nixon says the reason we don't see more creativity in business is that most leaders don't have any idea what it is. According to Nixon, employees may already be creative… just not at work. Learn how to harness the power of creativity in the workplace at Inc.com.

Is the Death of Corporate Philanthropy Exaggerated?
The recently released Giving USA statistics show that corporate giving to charities declined in 2013, yet there has been a steady flow of reports and articles pointing out that companies who do good in the world do well, according to John Godfrey, writer for Nonprofit Quarterly, in response to a recent Forbes article on the coming of end of corporate charity. Godfrey poses the idea that it might just be a matter of semantics—that corporate philanthropy is alive and well, but adopting new monikers, such as “corporate social responsibility” and “citizenship.” Read the article at NonprofitQuarterly.org.
