Americans for the Arts Annual Convention
More than 1,000 attendees came together at the Americans for the Arts Annual Convention, June 16–18, in San Diego to talk creativity. Business and arts leaders including James Herr of Boeing and Ray Pohlman of AutoZone gathered to discuss the great impact that the arts can have on business. Americans for the Arts is launching the pARTnership Movement in October to take those sentiments even further. The pARTnership Movement will give arts organizations tools to work with business and will message to business that the arts are good for their goals. For more information on the pARTnership Movement, http://blog.artsusa.org. To view this session and others through Convention On-Demand, http://artsusa.sclivelearningcenter.com. Convention On-Demand is $59 for those who attended Annual Convention in San Diego and $129 for all others. Facts and Figures

Arts Donations—Giving USA
According to a report released by Giving USA in June, contributions to arts, culture, and humanities organizations rose an estimated 5.7 percent to $13.28 billion in the past fiscal year. While the increase in donations is significant, the arts still represent only 5 percent of total charitable donations. Donations from American individuals, corporations, and foundations totaled approximately $290.89 billion in 2010, compared to $280.30 billion in 2009. For information, www.givingusa.org.

Companies Report Increased Giving
A survey conducted by the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) found that although the median of philanthropic gifts from corporations remained largely the same from the previous year, the total amount of giving increased by almost 18 percent in 2010. The report gathered data on all giving areas, including, but not limited to the arts, from 184 companies. The survey found that 65 percent of companies increased their donations in the past fiscal year, and 40 percent of those companies noted increases of 10 percent and higher. General Motors Foundation Supports Creativity
The General Motors Foundation has donated $2.5 million to the College for Creative Studies (CCS), the accredited art and design college in Detroit leading in automotive design. "The quality of young designers that CCS educates and trains is a tremendous resource for Detroit and the world," said GM North America President and GM Foundation Board Member Mark Reuss. "Working to strengthen CCS is critical in our attempts to help Detroit rebound economically and for us to win in the marketplace." For information, www.marketwatch.com.

Contemporary Art Sales Back to Peak at Basel Fair
The attendees at this year’s Art Basel spent $1.8 billion at the auction, sending the signal that art might be a safe investment. This marks a rise in price and demand, bringing profits back to where they were in 2008. $445 million worth of art was sold within the first 15 minutes. For information, www.bloomberg.com.
