President Obama and the United States Conference of Mayors Urge Arts Support
Last month, the White House issued its annual official Presidential Proclamation recognizing October as National Arts and Humanities Month, building on decades of support in Congress. In addition, the United States Conference of Mayors issued a resolution in support of arts and business partnerships, led by New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Chair of the USCM Tourism, Arts, Parks, Entertainment and Sports Committee. We are currently accepting nominations for the BCA 10: Best Businesses Partnering with the Arts in America. The BCA 10 recognizes 10 business each year that demonstrate exceptional commitments to the arts. Private Sector Network

Last month, Private Sector Network members joined Americans for the Arts on ARTSblog for a blog salon on the multitude of ways people can support the arts, including financial support and donating time and skills to allow arts organizations to advance.

Employee Engagement at the Greater Hartford Arts Council
Ali Fernandez, director of workplace partnerships at the Greater Hartford Arts Council in Connecticut, took a page from Buzzfeed with a list of ways the organization engages the employees of local businesses in their workplace giving campaigns. Rather than simply solicit funds, the Greater Hartford Arts Council encourages employees to take part in activities using innovation and creativity to produce a variety of paintings, drawings, and even fashion designs. Grinding Gears for the Arts
Americans for the Arts recently held a webinar on sports and arts partnerships, and in the months following, we’ve continued to find more and more examples of how this combination can result in successful outcomes for the arts and the community. Kyle Dlabay, director of special events at the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) in Milwaukee, speaks to the organization’s Ride for the Arts, which has been produced annually since 1981. Today, nearly 6,000 riders from the community and businesses in the area raise more than $550,000 for UPAF’s annual United Arts Fund campaign. Tuning Up (with) Chicago Arts Orchestra: Planning for a Music-Rich Future
Katie Kurcz, director of programs at the Arts & Business Council of Chicago, speaks to the organization’s Business Volunteers for the Arts® program and how it successfully matched a team of three pro bono consultants with the Chicago Arts Orchestra to develop a three-year strategic plan for the organization. Business Giving Is on the Rise, According to Giving in Numbers: 2014 Edition
CECP, in association with The Conference Board, released Giving in Numbers: 2014 Edition, the leading annual analysis of corporate giving and employee engagement patterns. According to the report, business giving is on the rise but has slowed in recent years. Non-cash giving increased, driven in part by expansion of pro bono service programs.
