Facts & Figures

Positive Outlook for Future Funding
Major arts groups boasted success despite the recession at the recent Crain’s New York Business conference on the performing arts. In fact, the Met sold a record $2.5 million in tickets on opening day and the New York Philharmonic sold 91 percent of its house last season, the highest percentage yet. This success is attracting the attention of corporate donors. For information, www.crainsnewyork.com.

Financial Upswing for MOCA
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles has raised nearly $60 million since December of 2008. The increase in fundraising comes after a financial crisis in 2008 that led to staff cuts, canceled exhibitions, and the resignation of trustees and the museum director. The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation made a pledge of $30 million in December. For information, www.foundationcenter.org.

City Hall Plans for Artist Support
Artists of New York City may soon be gaining new entrepreneurial skills with the help of a series of cultural initiatives unveiled by city officials. "A deep appreciation for the power the arts have on a community resides in the heart of UMB's culture. I believe communities that have a strong focus on arts attract and retain a brighter and more creative work force."
