PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Long Walk is a time-based, "open-source" and participatory event in which artist Susan Robb takes a group of fifty self-selecting members of the general public on a journey along the King County Regional Trails System (RTS). Over the course of four days, they walk from Golden Gardens Park on the Puget Sound to Snoqualmie Falls, a distance of 45+ miles. Participants experience a shift in their sense of time, a new understanding of the local geography, and the creation of an interstitial culture. By slowing down to footstep speed, the walkers are intimately connected with the region's architecture, landscape, and topography. A metamorphosis from city to suburb, farmland to forest is witnessed. Curated events and interactive activities spur collective experiences and alter the social terrain. Contributing artists included Eric Steen, Michelle Penaloza, Jenny Asarnow, Zack Bent, Joyce Wong, Rumi Koshino, Jim Demetre, Tessa Hulls, The Illicit Jug Cartel, Jessika Kenney, Eyvind Kang, Amanda Manitach, Jordan Monez, Charles Mudede, Terry Podgorski, David Sanford, The Snoqualmie Floodplain Cabaret; Travis Souza, Web Crowell, Rodrigo Valenzuela, The Bicycle Choir, and Art House Brooklyn’s Sketchbook Project
