Russell Granet
Russell Granet is President & CEO of New 42, the cultural nonprofit whose mission is to make extraordinary performing arts a vital part of everyone’s life from the earliest years onward. As the nonprofit behind New 42 Studios, Broadway’s beloved rehearsal home, and New Victory, the premier theater for New York kids and families, New 42 empowers young people, artists and educators through the performing arts. New 42 is most lauded for: New 42 Youth Corps, which pairs paid employment in the arts with academic counseling and professional development for 75 high school and college students annually; New Victory Education, which regularly serves 40,000 NYC school kids a year with subsidized ticket prices and free classroom workshops; New Victory Dance, which provides free dance performances and arts education for City-run summer schools; and New Victory LabWorks, a new work development program to support BIPOC New York artists in the creation of adventurous productions for families.
Under Granet’s leadership, New 42 expanded its virtual presentations and educator resources, including fully subsidized arts education for NYC public schools and the highly successful curriculum series, New Victory Arts Break, available online and broadcast nationwide on PBS as part of WNET’s Let’s Learn (2020-21) and WNET’s Camp TV (Summer 2020).
Among numerous honors, Granet was recently named by Crain’s New York as a 2020 Notable LGBTQ Executive. He serves as an advisor to the NYC Mayor’s Cabinet for Children and is a trustee of Times Square Alliance, Bank Street College and Sherman Fairchild Foundation.
