Ariadne (Ari) Albright is the Arts Program Coordinator and Artist in Residence for Sanford Vermillion Medical Center in Vermillion, SD. A professional artist since 1988, Ariadne was awarded the 2013 South Dakota Arts Council’s (SDAC) Artist Fellowship Grant, facilitating her most recent painting exhibition and visiting artist activities in Ankara, Turkey. A roster artist since 2007 for the SDAC’s Artists in the Schools and Communities Program, Ari’s specialization has become arts engagement in healthcare environments. Residencies include arts facilitation with patients, residents, staff and families at Sanford Cancer Center and Children's Hospital,
South Dakota Behavioral Health, SESDAC and long term care facilities.
Ariadne teaches painting, drawing and art appreciation in K-12 schools and High Ed Institutions including Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC as Assistant Professor of Art, from 2007 – 2009 and interim Assistant Professor of Art/Painting at the University of South Dakota (USD), 2010-2011. Her return to the mid-west in 2009 was informed by her family’s health, becoming a vocation of wellness through self-care and arts engagement. She currently teaches a new course at the USD - Arts in Healthcare - designed to introduce students to the diverse, multi disciplinary field of Arts & Health.
