A Learning Retreat for Public Art Leaders…because to be a good public art leader you need to be everyone’s PAL!

Americans for the Arts is pleased to announce the launch of the Public Art Leadership Forum (PALForum). As an expansion of the Public Art Network program, the PALForum will provide a transformative, and intensive leadership development experience for individuals in the arts and culture field that builds leadership confidence, teaches new strategies to advance your work and unearths creativity.

What is it? A 2½ day retreat-style professional development opportunity that includes peer exchange, leadership skill development, and public art viewing. It is also an opportunity to share your work, successes and challenges and make new connections with potential collaborators.

Who is this for? Arts and culture leaders who are manager level and above, working in the public art field, and looking for intellectually demanding, creative and open-ended learning.

Why? The PALForum is an opportunity to get a change of scenery, a change of schedule and to get deep. Experience a supportive space to think out loud with peers who understand the challenges and barriers. For the 2020 PALForum, participants will focus on Communicating Value, which centers around such questions as how do we talk about our work? How do we encourage our communities to engage with public art? How do we highlight the importance of public art to our stakeholders in addressing community goals? Attendees will be encouraged to bring their thoughts and challenges to this event and discuss with colleagues on how to address their local issues.

When and where is this? October 14 – 17, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Cost: $2,000 includes lodging (3 nights), travel to/from airport, meals (3 breakfast, 3 lunch, 2 dinner, programming and planned activities including excursions.

There are up to 17 available spaces for the PALForum. Due to the level of interest in previous programs, we have implemented a submission process to ensure access. Interested participants are asked to submit a statement of interest that includes a 300-word statement on why you wish to attend the PALForum. AFTA Members will receive priority placement up to 2/3 capacity.
