Portrait Connection presents an evening of art, and a celebration of local children who are valiantly facing health challenges. Twelve talented artists will present gifts of fine art portraits to the families of children with serious medical conditions. Come experience art's ability to connect people and instill joy, and learn how art can enhance the world of medical care. The fine art portraits will remain on display at Layor Art + Supply through April.

After years of working with over 87 national arts and arts education organizations to follow Congress' attempt to reauthorize the Elementary & Secondary Education Act and to work toward several arts education legislative objectives, Americans for the Arts was proud to see that arts education was part of the Every Student Succeeds Act that President Obama signed into law on December 10, 2015.

Eagle Watch has been a “Culver Tradition” since 1996 and will be held on February 27 & 28, 2016 at Round Butte Park in Culver, Oregon. Its purpose is to raise awareness about local and migratory, bald and golden eagles and why their preservation is so vital to the region.  Visitors can see live birds of prey up close, view wild eagles in their natural habitat, learn about raptors that live around Lake Billy Chinook, join in as the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs share their traditional music and dances, kids activities and contests and so much more.  

The Rogue Valley Symphony, Martin Majkut Music Director, presents cellist Amit Peled performing Dvorak's cello concerto at the Craterian Theater, The Collier Center for the Performing Arts,  in Medford, OR at 7:30 pm.  The program also includes Smetana's Overture to The Bartered Bride and Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, "Pastorale."

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

The Rogue Valley Symphony, Martin Majkut Music Director, will present cellist Amit Peled performing Dvorak's Cello Concerto with the orchestra on October 16-18 in the cities of Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass Oregon.  The program will also include Smetna's Overture to The Bartered Bride and Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, "Pastorale."  

In coordination with the U.S. House of Representatives' STEAM Caucus co-chaired by Reps. Aaron Schock (R-IL) and Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR),  Americans for the Arts will bring together STEAM leaders in diverse sectors, including academic, industry, government, and education fields to discuss briefly their work with STEAM and respond to a moderated question to build a conversation and showcase STEAM as a movement the public can join.

Explore and learn from arts organizations that have experimented with innovative approaches to audience engagement, including participatory programming, contests, and crowdsourcing. Hear from Karina Mangu-Ward, Director of Activating Innovation at EmcArts, Mike Murawski Director of Education and Public Programs at the Portland Art Museum, and 2013 ArtsFwd Business Unusual Challenge Finalist Dale Albright, Director of Field Services, Theatre Bay Area, about how to let go of old assumptions and adapt to the challenges of our new era.  

Two project managers and two artists discuss building successful relationships and developing skills sets that lead to the best art project while cultivating creative thinking and problem solving. Public art professionals at all levels of experience are encouraged to register.
