The new website provides arts marketers with an improved and dynamic digital space to grow and connect in their community, with four distinct spaces to get smarter, get together, get involved, and get inspired.

NEA Grants Oregon's Regional Arts & Culture Council 30K for Right Brain Initiative

Portland, Oregon's Regional Arts & Culture Council received a $30,000 grant earlier this week to be used for Right Brain, an initiative providing integrated arts programming for K-8 students. The Right Brain Initiative works with classroom teachers and arts educators to unite the Arts with core subjects, allowing both to become more accessible to all students. In its eighth year, programming will reach over 26,000 students in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington Counties in Oregon.

Vern Buchanan (R-FL) reintroduced the long-standing Artist-Museum Partnership Act (H.R. 4948) that would allow artists the same tax benefits as other Americans as it relates to donations of works of art, including literary, musical, artistic, or scholarly compositions given to and retained by a nonprofit collecting institution. Today, the U.S. House and U.S. Senate held its first conference meeting to continue work to bridge differences and reauthorize the expired Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), impacting a whole generation of students.

Members of the committee made public, opening statements in anticipation of a final agreement, which has been anticipated to occur as soon as the week of November 30, given the framework now in place. The committee will meet again on Thursday, November 19th, to continue their work and consider amendments.

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives formally agreed to form a conference committee to reauthorize the federal K-12 education law (Elementary and Secondary Education Act, ESEA), which has been expired since 2007.

The rule in today’s House floor debate formally allowed the House to request a conference with the Senate.

The innOVATION STEAM Grant Awards acknowledged public K-12 model STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programs in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of integrating the arts into educational curriculum.

A Portland city audit—released July 28—reported that nearly 200,000 city residents have not paid or filed tax exemption paperwork for Portland’s $35 arts tax. Approved by voters in 2012, the income tax is required of all Portland residents, 18 years or older, with an income over $1,000.
