Americans for the Arts, a leading partner in The National Coalition for Core Arts Standards (NCCAS), will launch in partnership with NCCAS the 2014 National Core Arts Standards in a streaming webinar on Wednesday, June 4, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Join arts education leaders from around the country to learn more about the new standards. The event will feature interviews with a broad spectrum of arts education providers, including certified educators, teaching artists, administrators, national/state policy makers, and arts education advocates.

There are so many partners doing amazing work in towns, cities, and states across the country--and in reflecting on this work, we wanted to especially thank the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and its staff for serving as the national lynchpin for the whole US arts field.

From September 2013 to February 2014, you can see 51 different pieces of art in different mediums including sculpture, photography, prints, multi-media, and many more – all done by 41 different faculty members from 10 different institutions across the state of South Dakota. These works of art are part of the South Dakota University and College Art Faculty Exhibition.

New York musicians, the Dana Leong Trio, bring a collage of musical styles to The Matthews Opera House & Arts Center 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Mar. 19. The group brings together an exciting blend of jazz, rock, and classical music.

The Dana Leong Trio, features Dana on cello, trombone, and electronics. Sam Sellers is on bass and Val-Inc performs turntables and electronics. This trio is the latest incarnation of Leong’s ever-expansive compositions. Of which, bring together an exciting blend of instrumental melodies and driving musical grooves.

The Matthews Opera House & Arts Center presents the work of Black Hills State University (BHSU) senior art students April 3-25. The opening reception takes place 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, Apr. 10 in the art gallery. The exhibit is free and open to the public during gallery hours, Mon. through Sat., 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Black Hills singer/songwriter, Jami Lynn, releases her second full length solo album of folk and Americana songs at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 10 at the Matthews Opera House. The album, “Fall is a Good Time to Die,” features 10 original tracks. Advance ticket sales are $15 all seats, and “at the door” $20 all seats.
