From September 2013 to February 2014, you can see 51 different pieces of art in different mediums including sculpture, photography, prints, multi-media, and many more – all done by 41 different faculty members from 10 different institutions across the state of South Dakota. These works of art are part of the South Dakota University and College Art Faculty Exhibition.

The exhibit has attracted people from all over the state, both students and members of the wider community. The museum and universities collaboration has helped both parties, as the museum is a highly visible venue that provides faculty and students with the ability to share and benefit from each other’s work. It has had a large impact on the school’s visual arts departments. The idea for the exhibit originated last year when the College Art Association gathered.

The call for submissions went out in early spring and submissions came in over the summer. The South Dakota Art Museum staff made final selections.

It goes back to the concept that we are stronger and better together than we are apart,” Tim Steele, head of the visual arts department at South Dakota University, told the SDSU Collegian.
