POP AUSTIN, one of the most exciting contemporary art events to ever take place in Austin, Texas, returns for its second year. The show will take place during the United States Grand Prix Formula One weekend Oct. 22 to 25 at Fair Market located at 1100 East 5th St., Austin, Texas 78702. This year’s show is called “ILLUMINATION” and will feature several light-based artists from around the world. The weekend will kick off with a ticketed VIP Opening Party on Thursday, Oct.

TEMPO 2015 Kick Off Celebration
The Art in Public Places program of the City of Austin’s Economic Development Department is proud announce the 2015 TEMPO projects! We’re kicking off this year’s program of temporary art installations with a celebration at Boggy Creek Greenbelt Park, 1114 Nile St. from 10am-12pm at the site of Omission, a one-day installation by artist Juan Deleon.  Meet the artists, stay for the art! Join the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places Program for a lively panel discussion with three distinct public art voices from around the country: Norie Sato, Artist based in Seattle, WA; Janet Zweig, Artist based in Brooklyn, NY; and Shelly Willis, Executive Director of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission; moderated by Meghan Wells, Art in Public Places Administrator, City of Austin. The panel will explore timely topics such as the intersection of local identity and artwork, public participation, and the artist’s role in promoting public dialogue.

CORE Performance Company offers the World Premiere of Je Suis/I am as part of the East End Street Fest.

Je Suis/I am is a dance/performance piece for public spaces, created collaboratively over the course of two years and multiple visits that define the cultural exchange between the partner organizations CORE Performance Company and Association Manifeste from Toulouse, France.

Point of View on the Street Corner: The American Corner is a dance created by Association Manifeste, from France, that layers choreography of street corners from our respective cities, Toulouse and Houston. This dance featuring Salle and Vargas of Manifeste plus Anna Bracewell of CORE Performance Company, takes place on the corner of Franklin and Milam Streets in the Old Market Square Historic District, and approaches the obvious differences and similarities between people of different cultures, as well as the meeting points that bind and connect us.

As part of National Arts and Humanities Month, Austin EAL will host a "Creative Conversation" on the topic of ethics and conflict resolution as it pertains to the arts & culture sector. Our panel will offer practical advice learned through experience.
