Americans for the Arts has announced the recipients of the 2015 Americans for the Arts Annual Leadership Awards. Presented each year, these awards recognize the achievements of individuals and organizations committed to enriching community through the arts.
Americans for the Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of Shelagh Mahoney, CEO and owner of Eastern Salt Company, Inc., Eastern Minerals Inc., and Atlantic Salt, Inc., to its Business Committee for the Arts (BCA) Executive Board.
At their recent Legislative Meeting on February 22 in Washington, DC, the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Arts and Cultural Commission held a panel on arts and the military, which focused on how the arts can assist with the physical and physiological healing of our nation’s veterans. Jay Dick, Americans for the Arts Liaison to NACo, moderated the panel that consisted of Americans for the Arts Senior Director of Arts Policy Marete Wester and Director of the Veterans Writing Project Ron Capps.
Americans for the Arts has placed an ad in the Chronicle of Philanthropy announcing Transforming America's Communities through the Arts, a comprehensive, three-year initiative to increase understanding of the value of the arts and investment in the arts. The ad can be viewed in the April issue of the Chronicle of Philanthropy on page 25.

The Annual Leadership Awards are presented each spring in conjunction with Annual Convention and recognize the achievements of individuals, organizations and programs committed to enriching their communities through the arts.
Americans for the Arts yesterday honored 31 outstanding public arts projects created in 2014 through the Public Art Network (PAN) Year in Review program, the only national program that specifically recognizes the most compelling public art. The works were chosen from more than 300 entries across the country and recognized at the 2015 Annual Convention in Chicago.
Today, the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH) will expand its successful Turnaround Arts initiative into five additional school districts, as the program continues to successfully help turn around low-performing schools, narrow the achievement gap, and increase student engagement through the arts.

Americans for the Arts is pleased to announce the BCA Hall of Fame and BCA Leadership Award honorees for 2015. The awards are presented annually by the Business Committee for the Arts (BCA), a division of Americans for the Arts.
This year, Americans for the Arts is honoring Ann Marie Miller with the Alene Valkanas State Arts Advocacy Award. Since 2007, the Alene Valkanas State Arts Advocacy Award has honored an individual whose arts advocacy efforts have dramatically affected the political landscape at the state level.
This year, Americans for the Arts is honoring Richard E. Huff with the Selina Roberts Ottum Award. Presented jointly by Americans for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts for the past 25 years, the Selina Roberts Ottum Award recognizes outstanding contributions in the local arts agency field.
This year, Americans for the Arts is honoring Jeff Hawthorne with the Michael Newton Award. For the past 25 years, the Michael Newton Award has recognized exemplary leadership skills and extraordinary dedication to supporting the arts through a united arts fund, which is a combined effort to raise money on behalf of multiple arts institutions in the community, or through unique and powerful partnerships with the private sector.
This year, Americans for the Arts is honoring Lara Davis with the American Express Emerging Leaders Award. Given annually since 2006 and sponsored by American Express since 2011, the American Express Emerging Leaders Award recognizes an exceptional new and/or young arts professional for their exemplary leadership, deep engagement with community, and strong commitment to advancing the arts.
