For the first time in a decade, Connecticut Arts Advocates gathered in their state capitol on March 3rd for Connecticut Arts Day…and they really delivered! The theme for the 350-person standing room only gathering was “Moving the Arts from Nice to Necessary.” Organized by the Connecticut Office of Culture, which is in the Economic and Community Development Division, arts advocates literally took over the first floor of the capitol.

Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education, today announces a schedule of events for the Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy and Arts Advocacy Day, as part of the National Arts Action Summit held March 7-8, 2016. Now in their 29th year, the events are presented by Americans for the Arts with more than 85 national organizational partners representing arts, culture, business, civic, and education institutions and individuals nationwide.

North Texas Business Council for the Arts (North Texas BCA) recently launched the inaugural Collin County class of the Leadership Arts Institute, a program designed to develop the next successful generation of business leaders for the arts.

On Monday, February 22, the National Association of Counties (NACo) approved an arts resolution at their annual Legislative Conference in Washington. The resolution supports the promotion of the arts and culture in America’s counties, and allows NACo to lobby and advocate for arts-related issues on Capitol Hill. It is evident that NACo is in strong support of increased funding for federal arts organizations.

SAY Sí (San Antonio Youth, YES) has long been known as San Antonio’s premier out-of-school time creative youth development organization. Since its inception in 1994, its growing success rates have garnered national attention and recognition. But for the first time in its 21-year history – SAY Sí’s tuition-free programs will go global. SAY Sí is the receipient of the 2013 Leadership in Arts Education Award from Americans for the Arts.

ArtsFund, a united arts fund in Seattle, was recently featured in a Seattle Times article about the charitable donations of Microsoft employees, fostered and encouraged by the company for which they work. In 2015 the company’s employees gave $62 million to groups in Washington State, a 7 percent increase from the previous year.
