First of three murals completed by internationally known street artist Shepard Fairey

After 16 arrests throughout his career, street artist Shepard Fairey is completing the first of three murals as a commission through the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.

Fairey is most well-known for his artworks "HOPE," which Obama used during his 2008 Presdiental Camipagin and "OBEY," a social dissent street art sticker and stencil. In the article Fairey talks about his start in the street art scene, and about how glad he is to be working with an public art program to offically create the artwork. He stated, “I’ve frequently had the police on my back so it’s great to have the powers backing me here."
