According to Jennifer DeChant of the Chocolate Arts Church Center

According to Jennifer DeChant - executive director of the Chocolate Church Arts Center in Bath, Maine - arts and culture are underrated and understated contributors to the economy in Southern Maine. She believes community arts organizations are a place to display local talent, but also offer teaching opportunities for young students. Children aren't the only demographic that benefit from the arts within a community - there is also significant benefit to elderly people who engage in art activities and interact with each other more, curbing depression and providng much-needed entertainment.

But it is a tough time for the arts nationally and Maine is no exception. DeChant stresses that now is the time, around the holidays, to add local arts events to your holiday traditions. Buy and litsen locally - investment in the arts pays off.
