National newspaper Politico featured Salt Lake County’s Zoo, Arts, and Parks Program—more commonly known as ZAP—which is a county-wide sales tax that benefits recreational and cultural organizations. The sales tax charges a penny on every $10 spend by consumers. In the Politico segment, the ZAP has raised $20.2 million in 2014 for over 190 county-wide organizations. In the November 2014 elections, the ZAP was overwhelmingly renewed by 77% of the vote. Other Recreation, Arts, and Park taxes were also approved with over 50% of the vote in Utah counties Washington, Bountiful, Clearfield, and Farmington.
